Occipital lobe infarctions are different

چکیده
OBJECTIVES We hypothesized that occipital lobe infarctions differ from infarctions in other locations as to etiology, risk factors and prognosis among young adults. METHODS Location, etiology, risk factors and long-term outcome were evaluated among all young adults 15-49 years suffering from cerebral infarction in Hordaland County, Norway between 1988 and 1997. RESULTS The following variables were more frequent among patients with occipital lobe infarction compared with patients with infarctions located elsewhere: younger age (P < 0.001), female sex (P = 0.016), prothrombotic state (P = 0.005) and lack of hypertension (P = 0.001). There was no difference as to long-term mortality or recurrence of cerebral infarction. CONCLUSION Occipital lobe infarctions differ from infarctions in other locations among young adults. This may have important etiologic and therapeutical implications that need further studies.

Neuroimaging analysis of a case with left homonymous hemianopia and left hemispatial neglect.
PURPOSE To correlate the neuro-ophthalmological observations with the magnetic resonance images (MRI) and positron emission tomographic (PET) findings in a case with left homonymous hemianopia and left hemispatial neglect. CASE A 57-year-old woman underwent surgery for a ruptured anterior communicating artery aneurysm. After she recovered consciousness, it was found that she had left homonymo...
متن کاملDiffusion weighted image (DWI) findings in methanol intoxication.
Methanol is a toxic substance with extremely devastating effects upon exposure. The case described suffered from such kind of poisoning. MRI brain demonstrated necrosis bilaterally in the Putamen areas which is a classic hallmark finding. Additional Diffusion weighted imaging showed abnormal signal bilaterally in the putamen areas along with Diffusion positive bilateral lesions (possibly infarc...
متن کاملTopography of the human corpus callosum.
This study was undertaken to determine the topographical organization of fibers coursing through the human corpus callosum. We correlated the distribution of Wallerian degeneration in the corpus callosum with the anatomical sites of focal cortical lesions due to ischemic infarctions or circumscribed contusions. Fibers from the inferior frontal and anterior inferior parietal regions course throu...

Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate the brain asymmetry and coherence between healthy controls and patients with alexithymia. Twenty four volunteers (14 alexithymic patients and 10 normal volunteers) were included in this study. All participants were asked to complete the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Farsi version of Toronto Alexithymia ...
متن کاملThe BOLD effect of interictal spike activity in childhood occipital lobe epilepsy.
PURPOSE Occipital lobe epilepsy (OLE) presents in childhood with different manifestations, age of onset and EEG features that form distinct syndromes. The ictal clinical symptoms are difficult to correlate with onset in particular areas in the occipital lobes, and the EEG recordings have not been able to overcome this limitation. The mapping of epileptogenic cortical regions in OLE remains ther...
